This $10 Mascara Held Up Through Beyoncé's Entire Coachella Performance

The world is still reeling from that earth-shattering, history-making Coachella performance that saw Beyoncé dance for two hours straight, reunite Destiny's Child, and become the first black woman to headline the music festival in one fell swoop. And that doesn't even cover her outfits (which were designed by Balmain's Creative Director Olivier Rousteing) or her makeup. We can chalk up some of her glow to the fact that, well, she's Beyoncé, but in an interview with Refinery 29, her longtime makeup artist Sir John shared that a lot of it came from the drugstore.

"I created a glittery lid by mixing a few different glitters. I started with a warm, terra-cotta base, mixed in an iridescent purple, then applied glitter on the center of the eye," he told Refinery 29. "For eyeliner, I used MAC's Brownborder on the bottom and a black liner on the top. I always tell women, even though you make your wing with black, coffee eyeliner on the bottom is the best finisher because it doesn't weigh down the eyes. Then I used the Lash Paradise mascara by L'Oréal and the brand's Infallible Chocolate lip color on her lips."

Lash Paradise, for the record, is only $10—and there's usually at least one tube floating around our beauty team's desks. It's often considered a dupe for Too Faced's Better Than Sex (which is $13 more). But this honestly might be its best testimonial of all: Not only did it look good, it didn't run in the slightest—even through a medley of 26 songs and two hours of dancing. And as Sir John pointed out, with such a hectic performance, there was little time for reapplication.

"You literally have about 45 or 50 seconds to touch her up [during a wardrobe change]—if you have a full minute, that's a dream. Someone is also pulling off a dress, or a zipper breaks, or something doesn't work, so I am basically holding her face still with one hand and then applying powder or blotting off sweat with the other," he told Refinery 29. "The funny thing is, you have to stay really, really calm; when the energy is going up, you have to go down and just chill. The best thing I can do is offer her zen vibes and usher her back out onto the stage."

So, to recap: Cheap mascara that doesn't budge? Possible. Quick-dry nail polish you can do between sets? If only.
